LEADERSHIP

Clay Barclay | Founder & President

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Clay Barclay has dedicated more than 25 years to helping individuals, businesses, and communities recover after catastrophic property losses. His passion for serving others and extensive experience in insurance adjusting have made him a trusted leader in the flood and property claims industry.

Clay attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High School before studying English Literature at Spring Hill College and History at the University of South Alabama, where he was mentored by the late Dr. Joseph Nigota. Before entering the insurance industry, he worked in Information Systems and Technology, bringing a strong analytical background to the claims profession.

After becoming a licensed Property & Casualty and Flood Adjuster, Clay built a career centered on expertise, leadership, and service. Over the past two decades, he has personally handled thousands of flood claims and trained hundreds of insurance adjusters, many of whom have gone on to become General Adjusters in both the Property & Casualty and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) sectors.

During the historic 2004 hurricane season, Clay served as Acting National Catastrophe Manager for Zurich Insurance's North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois, while supporting the company's catastrophe leadership team. He played a key role in expanding Zurich's catastrophe operation from just nine team members to more than 250 professional and administrative adjusters, helping prepare the organization to respond to one of the busiest hurricane seasons on record.

Following Hurricane Katrina, BAC Adjusting was instrumental in processing nearly $1 billion in insurance claims, helping policyholders recover and rebuild after one of the nation's most devastating natural disasters.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Clay has served on the boards of organizations including Datacom, Public Sector Technologies, and numerous nonprofit and charitable organizations throughout the Gulf Coast.

When he's not helping clients navigate complex insurance claims, Clay enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, attending live music events, reading, and hiking.

Vaughn Johnson | Director of Claims

Born in Cocoa Beach, Florida, Vaughn Johnson grew up in a military family. His father served in the United States Air Force, while his mother worked for the Department of Defense. Growing up across the Gulf Coast and Europe gave him an appreciation for different cultures, a strong sense of adaptability, and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Vaughn's insurance career began in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina after losing both his home and his job to the storm. Following early catastrophe adjusting assignments, he ultimately committed to the flood insurance industry more than 12 years ago. Today, he brings over 15 years of insurance experience, with the majority of his career focused on flood claims, catastrophe operations, and claims leadership.

Starting as a field adjuster, Vaughn worked numerous major catastrophe events across the country before advancing into claims leadership. During Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, he served on FEMA-contracted General Adjuster teams, supporting complex flood claims and large-loss investigations. Throughout his career, he has partnered with carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), independent adjusting firms, and FEMA contractors while leading daily and catastrophe flood operations across the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), Write Your Own (WYO), and private flood programs.

As Director of Claims for BAC Adjusting, Vaughn leads the company's flood claims operations while working closely with carrier partners to strengthen compliance, improve claim quality, and deliver responsive service. He also oversees BAC's technology initiatives, collaborating with software developers and carrier partners to modernize flood claim handling through workflow automation, API integrations, artificial intelligence, and emerging claims technologies. Drawing on both field experience and operational leadership, he has helped develop claims workflows, quality standards, and technology initiatives that strengthen flood claim operations for carriers, adjusters, and policyholders.

Committed to lifelong learning, Vaughn continues his professional development through executive education and professional development programs offered by Louisiana State University.

Outside of work, Vaughn enjoys golfing, offshore fishing, boating, and spending time with his family on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
